Third Painful Admission Of Taste Deficit

You've heard me confess my loathing of Opera, and Alcohol (I'm not fancy enough to appreciate either). I herein reveal another painful truth: I hate old movies. "Oh, let's stay in on a rainy day and watch old movies!" I'd rather attend an insurance seminar. "We cuddle up and watch old movies all night." Yikes, why not cuddle up and self-immolate? Fuck old movies - the melodramatic hypoglycemia-inducing "acting"; the trite, painful dialogue; the hackneyed stories; the maudlin plot polarities; the horrible "sound" mixing (scratchy voices and 'mono' noise); the ancient celluloid degeneration; the bad lighting... the list is endless (except for Auntie Mame). If it was made before 5.1 digital Dolby, I prolly don't wanna see it. I thought I was so fancy, and complex, and evolved, and sophisticated. I hate opera, old movies, and every glass of wine ever fermented. Give me rock n roll, summer blockbusters, and Diet Coke. Geez, I'm so fucking common.

Ah, but you've got it wrong. You're thinking of the wrong era. Some of the best made films were just before the Hayes Office restricted content. The writing and acting in the early talkies is far more intelligent than anything out today.
Open your mind and check this out. Believe me, as a gay man you will be totally amazed at what passed under the radar.
The photo you've posted is from the Silent era, which was in and of itself a whole other animal and even less restricted than the early talkies.

This is not a challenge, just meant to be an opener for your mind. I know you will be amazed at the quality of the writing and attention to detail in characterization.

What have you got to lose?

Okay, cajun, gimme some titles!? :) (mind you, i've seen The Women, All About Eve, etc.. i've seen the standard canon - and, of course, all the things i was forced to see in film school - the AFI 100 - from Kane on... ugh)... got any goodies i can put in my queue? OH, and NICE POINT about this photo being from silent films... this isn't really fair... i should change it now, but then this post won't mean as much.. so i'll leave it, and we'll stipulate to that for the record. ;)

it's taken all these years to grapple with how common i actually am.... how common many of my tastes are. i tried to be fancy for oh so many years, but i'm worn out and tired of pretending. lol. so utterly common. divine.
