Transperfection
There are only a handful of perfect American films. There are tons of good ones, and a few hundred excellent ones, but only a handful of perfect ones. Transamerica is perfect. Every frame, every line, every scene. And not just because the protagonist, played by Kevin Zegers, is drop-dead gorgeous. The script is breathtaking, and writer/director Duncan Tucker is a first rate genius. Wow.

Have you only just seen this? Wow ...
Hey There
just curious as to what other films do you consider a part of that "perfect" handful?
auntie mame, scent of a woman, 84 charing cross road, arthur, BARAKA, election, raiders of the lost ark, when harry met sally, a room with a view
What, no Hitchcock? "North by northwest" should be a shoo-in.
We'll have to work on the DVD library for the children, you know. I demand "Lady and the Tramp" be included, at least until we get a dog.
AH, tony added some titles!... thnx, t.... what else? who else? WHAT are some more perfect films? or "favorite" films?
um...Casablanca? Red (from Krzysztof Kieslowski's Trois Couleurs)? I think those two are my all-time faves...oh, and Out of Africa. Oh, boy, I'm gay. (And apparently I like to cry or something. Weird.)
I totally agree with you on 'Transamerica'. It was beautifully realized and performed. Ms. Huffman was robbed of an Oscar.
On my perfect list: 'Karakter', 'Ran', 'The Manchurian Candidate' (1962), 'Amores Perros', 'Y Tu Mama Tambien', 'Amadeus', 'Angels In America', 'Hedwig & the Angry Inch', A Room With A View', 'Closer', 'Bad Education', 'The Lost Weekend','Brokeback Mountain', 'Magnolia'
On my favorites list: 'Broadcast News', 'Hairspray', 'The Station Agent', 'L.A.Confidential', 'Moulin Rouge', 'The Dying Gaul', 'Beautiful Thing', 'Chariots of Fire', 'Strawberry & Chocolate, 'Frailty', 'Boogie Nights','Far From Heaven',
uhm, maybe I should stop now...
Good heavens, you're the first person I've met to differentiate between "perfect" and "favourite" - never mind the children, I'll be asking you to marry me before long!
Let's add the 1933 "King Kong" and "The third man" to the list of cinematic perfection, shall we? For its off-the-wall genius, a personal favourite has to be "Belleville rendez-vous", not forgetting the joys of "Shooting fish".
Oops, most of those aren't even American ...
What is this about?
Well, I haven't seen it yet, so can't give my own opinion, but I haven't read a single review that considered to be anything close to perfect. All the more interested in checking it out now.
Love is..."A Room With A View"
Can I eat you during the taste of Chicago?
OH yeah, and PRETTY WOMAN is a perfect film.
