YES, if you don't mind getting a possibly offensive answer. I would, however, advise you to read my profile first... if your question remains unanswered, shoot!

Are you serious, Meg?!? wow, what gave you that idea? And secondly, this brings a question to mind: Why is it that a homosexual is nearly always referred to according to their sexual orientation, as if that is what defines them; while we heteros aren't defined by this? Now THAT'S bullshit, if you ask me.

now u have me wondering - are people still offended by that question in the 21st century? the age of ellen, will and grace, rosie o'donnell, etc. based on meg's ominous preface i was expecting something really intense... some kind of painful examination of my stance on iraq, or drugs or prostitution. i was sweating your question meg... but it ended up being so innocuous. i appreciate the sentiment in your sensitivity, but that question shouldn't be offensive to anyone. I'm so (so, so, so) gay. Which doesn't mean, of course, that i'm not having children (the conventional way) with Bee's Knees.

It is not offending to me. But for many strait men it would be offensive to be confused as gay. I didn’t want to offend. And your right Randy, it shouldn’t define him. It doesn’t at all. He has many other wonderful things that define him. I didn’t mean to imply that I would let his answer help form my opinion of him. Just my youthful curious ways!

But you want a real question aethlos? Here you go:
I’m assuming you agree that it’s wrong to define a person based of their sexual orientation. You seem open minded and accepting of all different life styles. This said I was shocked to read this:
“FUCK islam, judaism, & christianity... i've read your evil "scriptures" & the planet will b a cleaner, better place when your preposterous, sick little fairy tales have rotted n2 ancient history. n a thousand yrs only graduate students n esoteric history classes will study all u twisted fucks & your degrading books...

I think your defining an entire religion, well multiple religions, based on the fuck head majority who believes in them. Just as your sexuality does not define you, these people cannot define those books. Are you confusion religion with god? Even though those books have caused countless wars, deaths etc, think of all the good things done that were backed or motivated by sheer faith in a god. What would the world be like with out belief in a higher power?

Ok I don’t want to start an argument or something but I had to give you a fair question after you trashed my other one
:)

Whoohoo!... that's a good one. :) a proper response would take days, and i'm watching bill maher, but a few quick points: i AM defined by my sexuality, and i would feel insulted by the notion of -not- being defined by it. So your assumption that i think "it's wrong to define a person based on their sexual orientation" is wrong. I'm obssessed with people's sexual orientations and activities... sexuality is one of the most important ways i define people (and it's usually one of the first things i want to know about someone - which half of the population they are inclined to mate with (or are they bi?, etc.), and i think all this "don't label me" stuff is horse shit. that's the default activity of the human mind - catagorization. the aristotelian A=A. So, for the record, my sexuality DOES define me - to such huge degrees as predicting which HALF of the population i won't have intercourse with (cept bees of course)... among a thousand other things... but "do you suck dick?" and "do you eat pussy?" are two of the first and most intriguing things i wonder about anyone i meet. but on to the next point: "these people cannot define those books"... TRUE. If people could define those books i might take it easier on those books, but people can't define the books. The books define themselves, and, far worse, those books DEFINE PEOPLE. My entire family is composed of fundamentalist christians... they are overwhelmingly defined by the "holy bible". Next point: NO, not confusing religion with god. in fact, i would hope to differentiate them entirely - because religions must be an abomination to any extant god. any entity responsible for creating the universe would be appalled by religion. (see my mencken post for my stance on god) last point... i think the world would be a much more decent, humane, peaceful place without "belief" in anything for which there is little or no evidence. But, alas, i'm a scientist. And as long as we're humans... superstition will rule the majority of our species.... i didn't mean to 'trash' your other question... but i love this one. and btw, love your poetry! Get out your bibles and FOLLOW ALONG! :)

seems I started a nice little discussion in my absense....very interesting comments. ok, let me weigh in. My first thought in reading your response to Meg, was "why?" Why is it that your orientation is the linchpin of your relationship with others? I ask, because, for me it is not, and I have a curious mind. No, the question should not be offensive, Meg. I agree. I don't know...maybe I'm not as horny as you Aethlos lol.

Secondly, one should never equate religion with the God of religion. they are not one and the same. Religions undoubtedly are an abomination to god....it brings to mind the tower of babel. Unfortunately, now we have all the different languages, cultures, hatreds....and the same old desire to conquer, rule and control in the name of God. Every religion is man's puny attempt to control god, and to make him the sole domain of their sect.

Finally, it strikes as ironic (not exactly the word I'm looking for) that the passion of sex is rivaled only by the fervor of religion.

Ok. I have returned. I have gone into the woods for days in search of truth. I have drank from the sweet streams. And I have lazed in the crisp grass. Enlightenment now clenches at my soul.
…Not really at all. I’m totally fucking lost. But I did come to one thing that I’m sure of. And that is this: nothing that has the potential to hold truth should be regarded with such aversion. Even though I am not a Christian by any means, (Spencer I feel your pain, 6 years with chaste, republican, service wailing Neanderthals definitely takes it’s toll) the bible holds truth and value. Whether you believe in Jesus or not, there’s no denying that he was pretty fucking amazing. Why spend so much energy trashing something that does hold goodness? That holds lessons that are undeniably important. True, many AWFUL things have been done in the name of Christ and the bible. But there have been so many wonderful people whose inspiration was the bible, faith and god. These are just really obvious examples. Of coarse there are more
Martin Luther
Martin Luther King
Mother Teresa
Soren Kierkegaard
C.S. Lewis
All of these people did wonderful things (maybe not Martin Luther, he was an awful anti-Semite, but breaking the world free of Catholicism is pretty good) and were inspired to do them by the book you condemn. And these are only huge ones; there are millions of other small, lovely examples happening all the time that we never hear about. Fundamental extremists OF ANY KIND are shit! You know this and I could cry for you. However those people who exploit and victimize, the ones that do horrible, horrible things in the name of the bible are only the half of it. Can you know good with out evil? Can you know good with out evil?? Ok now I’m really starting to sound like a Christian, so lets move on.

I really enjoyed looking through your interpretation of scripture. I loved the part where you listed all the contradictions. It’s something I have been thinking about for the past couple days. I have this. Maybe you can help…

1. Are Hansel and Gretel, The Three Little Pigs, or Pinocchio logical or realistic? No. Do they teach a lesson? Yes.

2. The ideal of holy contradictions fascinates me. Lets assume that there is a god who wrote the bible. What a beautiful thing. Contradictions. Is there anything more human? With in each person there is equal evil, equal good, equal night equal day. Human nature is all about multiple truths. I just think we get so caught up in our own beliefs that we forget this aspect of human life. We are all contradictions. As a race and as individuals. If there is a god, why would he/she/it create a book of single, narrow truths that we as human could all understand. Who wants a god they can understand and box and package?

3. I think it’s obvious that a many power-seeking men have altered the bible to their needs. So fuck the bad. What’s left that can be of value?

And lastly, my dear iconoclast, I am surprised to see you like Dickens. Why? He was a huge part of pop culture and people read his books in small, individually published pieces like we now read tabloids. Not to mention he was a total pompous boob.

it's kinda cool that you mentioned one of my friends in your list of good people influenced by the bible! :) NICE job, you make great points, but the paucity of Mother Teresas doesn't begin to outweigh or justify even one of seven crusades, or one half an Inquisition, or a weekend of gihad (different book, i know), and as far as Martin Luther - one of his later books was titled "Concerning The Jews and Their Lies", in which he commands Christians to tear out the tongues of all jews, and incinerate their synagogues... so Luther is a PERFECT example of the evil of the bible, let's take him off your list.... he was a vicious hateful monster who condoned genocide. LOVE THE RESPONSE!... you're so precocious, omg, you're going to be a new york times bestseller. :) .... more to come!

oh, dickens - i think the language is delicious, and the dialogue succinct... and the characters fascinating... i have no problem with serialized fiction as long as it's good... but you know i think bronte's eyre is written better than most dickens. all english lit combined is a far distant second to MENCKEN. OH, also, you can chalk up lots of my invective to garden variety Bitterness about religion... my personal experience with it has been far more destructive than constructive... mother teresa knew how this haunted me... yet she remained undaunted...
