Okay, let me get this straight: Moussaoui is a blow-hard zealot who intended to kill Americans, wanted to kill Americans, planned to kill Americans, but didn't actually kill ANY Americans? And now, we want to teach him how evil planning to kill people is - by KILLING HIM? Am I missing something, or is this the twilight zone? Are there really shitbag Americans so bloodthirsty that they want to EXECUTE someone who didn't kill ANYONE to teach him a lesson about the value of life? Is this really happening? Oh wait, are these the same twisted fascists who want to make felons of woman who terminate their pregnancies because Life is inviolable? What kind of evil, life-hating butchers would advocate executing some asshole who didn't kill anyone? (surely not Christians!) GO FIND OSAMA BIN LADEN THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR 9/11. The BAD GUY GOT AWAY, and this Moussaoui trial is a disgusting mockery of a sham of a travesty of an injustice of a distraction of a LIE. If we kill this man who has killed no one we prove ourselves to be the evil creatures they assert we are; we validate their reasons for slaughtering us wholesale, and we justify their attack on New York City. There's a fork in the road America: leave this guy locked up and remain the Good Guys, or execute him -- and join the other side.

I have to say I agree. Nearly 3,000 people died that day; the blood of yet another person is supposed to help somehow? Will it honestly provide "closure" for the people affected by the attack? It's not like it's going to deter future terrorist acts: people who are willing to fly themselves into skyscrapers or wear bombs around their waists aren't going to think, "Oh, wait, I might get caught and executed." And then of course there is the unavoidable fact that while this man, given a chance, would carry out an attack on Americans, he hasn't killed anyone...and his recent claims that he was part of the 9/11 conspiracy can't be substantiated, even by the prosecution. He's a crazy person, but last time I checked insanity was used as a defense or mitigating factor, not a capital crime.

Oh boy, this is what my senior thesis is on; the death penalty. It's SUPPOSE to be for punishment and deterrence, but in order for it to work for either, it must come immediatly after the crime, not 5-10 years down the road. Americans use for revenge, and then like you said, turn around and want to prosecute a woman for having an abortion. It's all fucked up, we've made a mockery of our justice system, complete hypocricy.

Whatever views on the death penalty aside, it seems very obvious to me that Moussaoui's greatest personal punishment would be spending the rest of his life in an American prison.
i think that the best penalty for moussaoui (and i just got the moussaoui-kateers joke--i'm slow, i know) would be to sentence him to forced labor as a roadie for the billy graham crusade. or maybe confine him to a cell with nothing but a television set that broadcasts american idol reruns 24/7.
The fact of the matter is that Moussaoui IS a martyr, folks. He is a martyr to the American idea of justice. 9/11 was such a horrendous scar on our national consciousness that Someone has to pay. He just happens to be the target of our revenge. We can't get to the real culprits, so kill the next best thing.
I do not advocate this, but I am aware that this is a fact of our nation. Fucked up, to be sure. The death penalty in America is all screwed up, and this is yet another perfect example of justice gone lunatic.

Bin laden, like Moussauoi, didn't actually pull the trigger but is responsible for deaths- although Moussauoi wasn't really involved in the 9/11 attacks, he was going to be involved in something.
At first I thought, fuck this guy, he wants to pretend to be a terrorist then send him to hell like one. But he should have to live out his days rotting in a cell as the failure that he is, knowing the American people didn't fall for his sham.
At some point we need to hold people who conspire to harm Americans accountable in a much harsher way than life imprisonment- a diurnal ass fucking with an under-ripe pineapple is a perfectly acceptable punishment in my opinion- but leave the death penalty to the assholes who actually kill other people.
If we start killing people just because they want to kill another human being then we would have to start locking up the KKK, jealous girlfriends, and the angst filled victims of shitty drivers.

Just because Moussaoui was too stupid to pass flight training doesn't mean he wouldn't HAVE killed people when given a chance.
