Man Bites Dog

I'm so sick of this asinine accusation: “news agencies don’t report the good stuff in Iraq.” Let’s be clear: ‘Dog Bites Man’ is NOT news. ‘Man Bites Dog’ IS news. ‘Child Attends School’ is NOT news. ‘Child Slain At School’ IS news. ‘Family Eats Dinner’ is NOT news. ‘Diner Eats Family’ IS news. 'Cat Falls From Tree' is NOT news. 'Falling Cat Kills Infant' IS news. The normal goings-on of society are NON-NEWS. No ethical journalist has any business reporting non-news. ‘Dog Bites Man’ is NOT NEWS. The everyday minutiae of ordinary life is "human interest" reporting, thus falls under the purview of Ophra, Maury, Dr. Phil, The View bitches, and other such fucktards - NOT CNN. The schmaltz-schleppers WOULD be crawling all over Iraq reporting sentimental trash, IF they could leave an Iraqi hotel room without being blown to bits. Why aren't the media being clear about this? Why are they caving to this absurd accusation? Please help me shout this from the mountaintops! DOG BITES MAN IS NOT NEWS!!!

Did you see Jon Stewart's comment on this same subject? He said, "Okay...good news, hmm, here's the weather forecast for Baghdad tomorrow: shrapnel with a chance of AAAAAAAAAAH!" Even though I thought it was kind of in poor taste, given the absolute hell people must be enduring over there, I nearly fell off the sofa laughing.

Umm... actually, "Cat falls from tree" *is* news.. atleast going by the coverage over the last 2 days over this cat that fell off a tree.. and landed on its feet and scampered away... pretty mundane stuff... but stuff of the news. ;)

Oh, and how DARE you misspell Oprah!? Don't you know she's the Queen of talkshow America? She can banish you from her Queendom.

Of course that story was about a cat who fell several stories and lived to tell...well, meow about it, so I can give a pass to that one.

But Spencer is right, News is News. Someone going to work in the morning? Probably not news. Someone not going to work tomorrow because something horrible happened to them on the way? Probaby news.

thank you! i'm sorry if some people don't care that X suicide bombing killed X amount if civilians. and i'll be damned if i choose a story on 'operation school supplies' over that.

that's what 'alternative weeklies' are for. not daily newspapers.
